As the seasons shift, our body ailments change. Sometimes I see shoulder after shoulder after shoulder. All in pain. But the last few weeks I seen many a knee in pain. Knees are related to the low back in Chinese medicine and both correspond to the kidney. Winter is the season for the kidney.
The classics tell us the kidneys keep us warm in the winter. Hot soups, wearing kidney warmers and drinking plenty of warm water will all help kidneys. With luck, they will help your knees too.
Knees are amazing really. We take them for granted. Squats and gentle stretches. Knee rotations. Walking. Sitting too long is not good for them, as you probably already noticed.
Hurray for the knee! It keeps us upright. An unsung hero of living our active, fun-filled lives. Let's give thanks for this wonderful part of us and recognize that it's health is related to our good care of it... or our neglect.
